The Detpack (HE Charge in ETF) is a weapon in the Team Fortress series. It must be manually set by staying still for a few seconds and has a timer. The timer can be adjusted from five seconds to one minute; depending on the game. In QWTF and TFC, the Detpack can be set to 5, 20 or 50 seconds. In ETF, it can be set from 5 to 60 seconds.
Five seconds before it goes off, it will make a beep noise; and for the person that set it, a countdown will be shown. When the timer goes off, it will release an enormous explosion that will gib anything affected it, no matter how much armor and health the victim has.
It is only usable by the Demoman.
The Detpack can be defused by a Scout that runs over it.
When using the Detpack, always make sure that you have enough room to run away! Getting caught in your own blast can be pretty embarrassing.
On Offense, the Detpack can be useful for wiping out a strongly-defended area. However, when setting it make, sure that you have adequate protection or distraction. Otherwise, you'll usually get killed before you can set the Detpack down. When using it in this way, give the Detpack a short timer, such as five or ten seconds. Otherwise, you'll run the risk of a Scout running over and "accidentally" disabling it before it goes off.
On Defense, the Detpack can stop an enemy attack in its tracks if your team is getting pounded by the enemy attackers. Place the Detpack in an area that enemies must usually go thought when there's a small lull in enemy attacks. Give it a timer between ten to twenty seconds to lessen the chances of it exploding when no enemies are coming.
In addition, you can also put a Detpack in the middle of a yard. This will also wipe out anyone that is attacking your base, but remember that your allies will be nuked by it as well if friendly fire is on. When placing a Detpack in the yard, try to have some cover, such as having a Sniper or Soldier cover you. Standing still in a map's yard can be a death sentence if you don't have cover.
The Detpack can be used to destroy parts of the map on certain levels, such as clearing out the caved in mine shaft in Rock and Rock2, destroying the underwater gate that leads to the enemy's tower in Well and punching holes through certain walls in Canalzone.
