It is only used by the Engineer.
Quake Team Fortress and Enemy Territory FortressEdit
The Railgun is a great weapon in Quake Team Fortress and Enemy Territory Fortress. Since it doesn't have damage falloff over distance, it is ideal for engaging targets at up to medium range. It works best against wounded targets, such as those that have been hit by a few Super Shotgun blasts. It can also do some damage to fleeing targets, such as Scouts trying to get to the flag.
Do not use the Railgun at long range. While the projectile is fast, it is not fast enough for an enemy to not notice it coming their way and avoid it.
On offense, the Railgun can be used to whittle down an enemy sentry gun. Get out of the gun's rage, then open fire. However, don't do it for too long, or enemies will notice and attack you.
The Railgun takes some getting used to (mostly because it only fires one projectile), so practice with it for a bit before you begin to seriously use it.
Team Fortress ClassicEdit
The Team Fortress Classic Railgun is much less useful than its QWTF and ETF versions, since the damage has been significantly reduced. This makes the Railgun borderline useless. Engineers should stick to using their SSG (Super Shotgun) and not this, unless you are very lucky and/or want to humiliate someone.
- The QWTF Railgun uses a reskinned Single Shotgun for its model.
